With winter here, your vehicle can take a toll. At IAD Auto, we want you to have a safe winter driving season, so here are a few tips to help you make it to spring and keep your car in top shape.

Check Your Tires

Your car's tires connect your vehicle and the road. It is important to ensure they are properly inflated, especially in cold weather where the roads can be slick. If you're unsure about the recommended tire pressure for your vehicle, there should be a sticker inside your driver's door. It's also important to have enough tread; it's easy to check; if you place a penny head-down, it should at least cover some of Lincoln's head.

Top Off Fluids

Check the fluid levels in your vehicle or have them checked by a certified technician. Moisture can get into steering, brake, and other systems that use fluid if they're low and freeze. Keeping fluids topped off can prevent that from happening. Windshield washer fluid is essential in the cold; keep it topped off and keep some extra in your vehicle.

Prepare for Emergencies

Keeping a few items in your car can help if you get stuck in the cold or just need to leave a parking spot. A small snow shovel can help clear a path if you get stuck or just have a plow clear a parking lot where you parked. Some kitty litter can help keep windows from fogging and help add traction on ice.

Have Your Vehicle Inspected
