It's also important to have enough tread; it's easy to check; if you place a penny head-down, it should at least cover some of Lincoln's head.
Top Off Fluids
Check the fluid levels in your vehicle or have them checked by a certified technician. Moisture can get into steering, brake, and other systems that use fluid if they're low and freeze. Keeping fluids topped off can prevent that from happening. Windshield washer fluid is essential in the cold; keep it topped off and keep some extra in your vehicle.

Keeping a few items in your car can help if you get stuck in the cold or just need to leave a parking spot. A small snow shovel can help clear a path if you get stuck or just have a plow clear a parking lot where you parked. Some kitty litter can help keep windows from fogging and help add traction on ice.
